For a casino player, Betfred’s welcome offer is free spins on Big Bass Bonanza, up to 750 of them over your first three deposits. The promotion’s headline also promises up to R21,000, but Betfred’s terms say that bonus money can only be used on sports, horse racing and Lucky Numbers. How many spins you get depends on the size of each deposit, as the first-deposit table we captured from the promotion page shows.

Each deposit also earns the sports bonus, at 100%, 50% and 75% of the deposit, capped at R7,000 each time.

What the welcome terms say

• The spins land within two hours of your deposit and expire 72 hours later.
• Your deposit has to be played through in full before you can withdraw anything won with the spins or the bonus money.
• Betfred doesn’t publish what each welcome spin is worth, whether spin winnings carry wagering, or a maximum win from the spins.
• The sports bonus has to be bet four times within seven days, as bets on one event only, and you can move at most R10,000 from each bonus to your main balance.
• Depositing big on the first and third deposits but small on the second counts as manipulation and voids all three bonuses.

Sizing your first deposit

All 750 spins need R31,000 across three deposits, and the second one alone has to be R14,000 or more. A R500 first deposit is a more realistic test. You get 50 spins plus R500 of sports bonus, and you have to bet your R500 deposit once before you can withdraw any winnings. Slots keep about R4 of every R100 you bet on average, so that costs you around R20. We can’t put a rand value on the 50 spins, because Betfred doesn’t say what each one is worth, and we’d like it to publish that figure.

Weekly slot offers

Sunday Spinbacks returns up to 50% of a Sunday’s net slot losses as bonus money the next morning, capped at R5,000. AGT slots pay back 4.5% to 10% of your losses as free spins, and the rate rises the more days in a row you play. Deposit More, Earn More gives free spins every Monday based on the previous week’s deposits, though the amounts are small. R700 deposited earns 50 spins at 30c, which is R15 in spins, or about 2% of what you paid in.

Studio promotions run on top. Betfred’s public pages only say that each payment method has its own minimum and maximum, without giving the figures. According to its terms, withdrawals are processed within 24 hours once the verification checks are done. Two rules can hold you up. Every deposit has to be played through in full before you withdraw, and if your first deposit was a voucher of R100 or more, any winnings from the first-deposit bonus can only be paid out by EFT.

Getting FICA-verified

1. Sign in and use the Upload Documents button in the FAQ under “How to upload FICA documents”.
2. Upload your SA ID or passport and a proof of address no older than 3 months.
3. Add proof of your bank account if you plan to withdraw by EFT, because Betfred only pays into a verified South African account in your own name.
