Our Betway experience
We went through Betway’s casino from a South African connection on 29 October 2026, reading its promotions, its terms and conditions and the studios in its lobby.
The biggest selling point is choice. Betway has games from 50 studios, including Play’n GO, Hacksaw Gaming, NetEnt and Evolution, and its promotions page lists 29 casino offers, from evening cashback to daily jackpots.
The welcome offer is a letdown, though. New players get 10 free spins, 10 free flights on Aviator and a small free bet once they’ve placed their first bets, which is far less than the deposit matches at most casinos we’ve reviewed.
What we like
- Slots and live games from 50 studios, Play'n GO and Hacksaw included
- Cashback, jackpots or leaderboards most evenings
- Free cash-send withdrawals to any Absa ATM
What could be better
- The welcome pack is only 10 spins, 10 flights and R10
- No deposit, loss or session limits
- Many HelloPeter complaints about withdrawals held in review
Key terms and conditionsSummarised from Betway's terms
- You must be 18 or older, and no account is opened until Betway has verified your identity under FICA.
- Withdrawals go to an account in your own name, and a large payout may be split over several days because of payment provider limits.
- Betway may charge a fee on some withdrawals, and it shows the amount when you request the payout.
- An account with no deposit or bet for 90 days is dormant, and Betway can keep the balance after that.
Affiliate disclosure: we may earn a commission if you sign up through our links. It never affects our scores. This casino is licensed in South Africa.

Betway's R50 welcome pack, and the evening offers that matter more
Updated
Betway doesn’t match your first deposit. Once you’ve registered and wagered R50, you get 10 free spins on 12 Masks of Fire Drums, 10 free flights on Aviator and a R10 free bet. There’s no promo code, and the pack waits on your home page for seven days after you sign up.
Those bets have to qualify. On slots that’s simple, but sports bets only count if they’re combo bets with at least five games at total odds of 3.0 or more (all five have to win for the bet to pay out). On crash games such as Aviator, a win only counts if you cash out at 1.5x or higher, while losing rounds always count.
What Betway’s terms say
- The pack is open to every new customer and has no end date, although Betway can cancel the promotion at any time.
- The spins and flights can take about 10 minutes to appear.
- The terms don’t say what each free spin is worth, or whether spin winnings carry wagering.
- Casino bonus money in your bonus balance has to be wagered 30 times on casino games within 30 days. A R100 bonus means R3,000 in bets.
- The terms set lower contributions for table and live games. Sic bo and poker count 50%, blackjack, baccarat and craps 10%, and roulette and game shows only 2%. Slots aren’t in that table, so check with support before you rely on them.
- A single bet worth 15% or more of the bonus before you’ve finished the wagering counts as irregular play, and Betway can cancel the bonus and its winnings.
What the welcome pack is worth
Unlocking the pack on slots costs very little. Assuming the slots keep an average of R4 for every R100 wagered, R50 in qualifying bets would cost you around R2 along the way.
The pack itself is small, though. Ten spins and ten Aviator flights won’t last long, and the free bet is small too. By comparison, Hollywoodbets gives R25 and 50 free spins without a deposit, and Lucky Fish gives R50 plus free spins on sign-up. We’d like Betway to publish the value of each spin, so players can see what the 10 spins are worth before they sign up.
The casino offers after you’ve joined
Betway listed 29 casino promotions when we checked on 29 October, and most of them run at set times. Between 17:00 and 19:00, it pays back 5% of your slot losses, up to R1,000. From 19:00 to 21:00, slots from Games Global, Evolution and Pragmatic Play each share R250,000 a day in jackpots.
On Saturdays between 3pm and 5pm, 10 missions can earn you up to 399 bonus spins. Live casino players get a R50,000 leaderboard on Crazy Time every Friday, and the same prize pool on roulette on Saturdays and blackjack on Sundays.
The Daily Reload is a deposit match, but the promotions page only shows the amount once you log in. Studio prize drops run on top, including Pragmatic Play, Playtech, EGT and Yggdrasil.
50 studios, from Play'n GO and Hacksaw to Betway's own slots
Betway’s lobby covers almost every big slot studio. Its Providers page listed 50 of them on 29 October 2026, including Play’n GO and Hacksaw Gaming, which are both missing at YesPlay, as well as Nolimit City, NetEnt and ELK Studios. Pragmatic Play, Games Global, Red Tiger, Habanero and Playtech are there too, along with local favourites like Spribe’s Aviator and a row of Betway-branded slots.
The lobby doesn’t show a total number of games, so we can’t compare the count with casinos that publish one. Lucky Fish, for example, has about 3,900 slots.
The games are split into slots, crash games, live casino and quick games, with virtual sports in a separate tab. Betway’s terms also describe its own jackpots, including Rising Riches and the Mane Million, and the promotions page advertises Mzansi Moolah jackpots on selected slots.
You can’t try a game before you sign up. When we opened Aviator without an account, Betway showed its login box instead of the game.
Six live studios and a leaderboard every weekend
Betway’s live casino has tables from Evolution, Ezugi, Playtech Live, Pragmatic Play Live, BetGames and On Air Entertainment, which covers roulette, blackjack, baccarat and Evolution’s game shows such as Crazy Time. Each weekend day has its own R50,000 leaderboard (see the promotions above). Live games are a slow way to clear a casino bonus, because roulette and game shows count only 2% towards the wagering.
Betway's RTP settings sit behind the login
A slot’s return to player (RTP) tells you how much it pays back over time. A game with 96% RTP returns an average of R96 for every R100 wagered, leaving R4 with the casino.
Studios such as Pragmatic Play offer the same slot in several RTP versions, and the casino chooses which one to run. Betway doesn’t publish its RTP settings in the lobby, and because every game needs a login, you can only check the figure on a game’s information screen once you have an account.
That matters most for Betway’s own branded slots, which you won’t find at other casinos to compare. For a game like Aviator, Spribe publishes an RTP of 97%.
Cash-send withdrawals and a 72-hour EFT window
Updated
Betway takes deposits in a lot of ways. Besides cards, Ozow and banking apps, you can pay with OTT, Kazang, 1ForYou or Betway vouchers, at Shoprite and Checkers Money Market counters, through Shop2Shop EasyLoad or with MTN MoMo. Voucher deposits are credited immediately, according to Betway’s deposit page. It doesn’t publish minimum or maximum amounts for each method.
Betway’s most unusual withdrawal option is Absa CashSend. It sends you a 10-digit PIN that you use at any Absa ATM with Betway’s access code, and Betway says it’s free and doesn’t need an Absa account.
| Withdrawal method | What Betway says about timing |
|---|---|
| EFT to your bank account | Paid within 72 hours of Betway confirming the funds |
| FNB eWallet | Processed immediately, up to 24 hours to reflect |
| 1ForYou voucher | Up to 24 hours to process, PIN by SMS |
| Absa CashSend | Not published |
| Standard Bank Instant Money | Not published |
| Nedbank Send-iMali | Not published |
Betway’s terms add two warnings. A large withdrawal may have to be paid in several transactions over a number of days because of payment provider limits, and some withdrawals carry a fee, which Betway shows when you request the payout. Withdrawals to a bank account in someone else’s name can be refused.
Getting verified
- Register with your mobile number. Betway asks for your full names, SA ID or passport number, email, mobile number and the source of the money you’ll bet with.
- Upload a colour copy of your ID, with all four corners visible. If you use a smart card ID or a driver’s licence, upload both sides.
- Add a South African bank statement that’s no older than three months from your registration date.
Betway’s terms say no account is opened until your identity has been verified, so it’s worth having the bank statement ready before you sign up.
A data-free app, downloaded from Betway's site
Betway calls its app data-free, and its app page says the full casino is inside, including Aviator, slots, table games and live dealers. Android users download it as an APK file from a link on Betway’s site, because it isn’t on Google Play. You’ll need to allow installs from unknown sources first.
Named agents get praise, slow replies get complaints
Betway’s support gets mixed reports on HelloPeter. Reviewers who had a problem solved often thank individual agents by name, and some say an agent called them back without being asked.
The complaints are about reaching anyone in the first place. Some HelloPeter reviewers say the live chat answered with an automated message, while others describe unanswered emails or long waits on the phone.
You can contact Betway through live chat on the site, by phone on its standard-rate line or on X at @Betway_za. Its contact page doesn’t list support hours.
Breaks and self-exclusion, but no spending limits
Betway’s safer gambling tools are built around taking a break. In the Responsible Gambling section of your profile you can lock your account for up to six months, and the lock starts immediately. Betway’s Responsible Gaming page also lists suspensions of at least 24 hours, one month and six months, and permanent self-exclusion, which closes the account for good.
Requests sent by email can take up to 48 hours, and Betway says anything you do on the account in that time is your responsibility. If you exclude yourself permanently, Betway contacts you to return a balance of R20 or more.
The page also offers a self-assessment test and shows your account history, including deposits, withdrawals, stakes and winnings. It doesn’t mention deposit limits, loss limits or session reminders, so a spending cap has to come from your bank.

Withdrawals stuck in review lead Betway's HelloPeter complaints
Betway scores 1.7 out of 5 on HelloPeter from 1,191 reviews in the last 12 months, and about three quarters of them give 1 star. Unhappy customers are always more likely to post a review, but that’s still a lot of complaints.
The most common report is a withdrawal held in “standard review” for weeks. One reviewer said a special withdrawal requested on 30 July was still unpaid at the end of October. Others describe accounts locked because Betway linked several accounts to one device, or being asked for three months of bank statements before funds were released.
In its replies, Betway often points to the rule that deposits have to be wagered in full before a withdrawal can go through. The positive reviews mostly thank named agents for sorting out a problem.
Players’ opinion
HelloPeter reviewers mostly complain about withdrawals stuck in review and locked accounts, though some thank individual agents for sorting their problem out.

Who Betway suits, and who should look elsewhere
Betway is a good choice if you want a big game lobby and like playing at set times for extra prizes. Slots and live tables come from 50 studios, including Play'n GO, Hacksaw Gaming and Evolution, and there's a cashback, jackpot or leaderboard running on most evenings.
New players get much less. The welcome pack is worth only a few rand, so anyone looking for a deposit match should start elsewhere. HelloPeter reviewers also describe withdrawals held in review for weeks, and Betway's responsible gambling page offers breaks and self-exclusion but no deposit or loss limits.
Overall, we give Betway 4.4 out of 5.
How we checked this review

Betway FAQ
Is Betway legit?
Yes. Betway South Africa runs under two licensed companies, Raging River Trading with Western Cape licence 10181496-012 and Eastern Dawn Sports with Mpumalanga licence 9-2-1-09658.
Does Betway have a no deposit bonus?
Not quite. The welcome pack only appears after your first qualifying bets, so you'll have to deposit before you get the spins, flights and free bet.
Do I need a promo code at Betway?
No. The welcome pack is added automatically once your first bets qualify, and it stays on your home page for seven days after you register.
Can I play Betway casino games for free?
No. When we opened Aviator without an account on 29 October 2026, Betway showed a login box, so you need to register before any game loads.
Can I clear a Betway casino bonus on live games?
You can, but it's slow. Blackjack counts 10% towards the wagering, and roulette and game shows only 2%, so a R200 bonus at 30x would need R300,000 in roulette bets.
